Firearm Safety Courses

The Stockbridge Sportsmen's Club hosts regularly scheduled firearm training courses which will qualify first-time applicants for either an FID or LTC in Massachusetts or for a Connecticut Resident or Non-Resident Pistol Permit. During the summer vacation months this course may be suspended if there is insufficient demand. Note that Massachusetts does not require live fire, but Connecticut does.

Occasionally we offer specialty courses such as Youth-Only or Women-Only Courses, the NRA Range Safety Officer Course, NRA Certified Instructor Courses, the Utah Concealed Firearm Permit Course and even the Multi-License Firearm Course (MA-CT-UT-FL-AZ-ME-NH), etc. These courses can be scheduled on an as-needed basis for appropriate sized groups.

We do not currently offer the Basic Hunter Education Course that is required to qualify for a hunting license in Massachusetts. Please refer to the Bulletin Board page for a link to the MassWildlife Hunter Education course schedule. All such courses are scheduled by the State, not by the clubs that may host them.

Firearm course announcements will appear below when scheduled. For additional information, please contact Robert McDermott, Instructor, at 413-232-7700.

We don't currently have any firearm courses scheduled due to the Governor's executive order which has closed the club until May 18th.
As of April 21st, the Massachusetts State Police is approving online courses that may be offered only during the
shutdown. If you are interested in taking an online course that qualifies for a Massachusetts FID or LTC, visit for details. Daytime and evening courses are available until the end of the shutdown.
